Students are protesting the ongoing US-assisted Israeli genocide in Gaza. I admire them for that — no one else is willing to protest.
Maybe there are some paid protestors among them, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they are willing to take a visible stand against genocide. They are demanding that their schools divest from any investments that act to support this genocide.
And the students have not conducted violent protests — the violence has been directed at them by the police. Whatever happened to the First Amendment right of free speech in the US? All the endless talk about “freedom and democracy” apparently means you are only free to say and do whatever the state approves of. Otherwise, they will come after you.
That is a far cry from what America was supposed to be about.
