when you don’t have an effective conventional force, then you are only left with nuclear weapons . . . .
and that is the real danger, that the neocons running US policy will get us into a shooting war with Russia or China that we cannot win with conventional weapons . . . and that would leave us with the choice of either admitting defeat or escalating to the use of nuclear weapons.
Should we ever take that step against Russia or China, our country, and even civilization will be destroyed.
The threat of mutually assured destruction has kept us all alive so far, and hopefully that will be enough to prevent a nuclear holocaust, but there’s so much economic/geopolitical tension in the world right now you can cut it with a knife.
