The image of a confused, mumbling President Biden being hustled away from the podium during a press conference was a fitting conclusion to the failed attempts of Washington and its G7/NATO allies to isolate Russia and China. The optimistic BRICS spirit prevailed, as former colonial nations proceeded with plans for cooperation for economic development. The attempt to push through a statement condemning Russia for the war in Ukraine was not adopted, and plans for more draconian “Green” anti-development policies were rejected.
